7 Design Ideas for Luxury Garden Treehouses

Updated: Feb 22

  1. A secret passage.

One of the best features for a treehouse or playhouse. We always try and incorporate any ideas from customers and especially their kids. One of our favourite challenges to be set is to find a way to make a secret passage.

  1. Copy the style of your house

Its great to make a mini version of your house, or to strongly echo distinctive features of the architecture. It's a great way to make it fit in and be truly unique.

  1. Fancy Windows

Windows are a great way of lifting a design from essentially being a plain wooden box to something much more characterful. You'll notice the same thing on actual houses - a house can be quite plain but with a bit of window flair, it really brings the whole building to life.

  1. Stairs

A very simple one, but stairs instead of a ladder can really add a sense of grandeur and luxury. With our treehouses they cost a bit more (£100 or so) than a ladder, but they're often something people notice.

  1. Make it modern...

A treehouse or playhouse doesn't need to be natural and like it's from a fairytale. Depending on the style of garden and main house, or the taste of the customer, a modern style is often a good way to create something spectacular and unique.

  1. ...Or make it really rustic

A dormer pitched roof, waney edge larch, and some traditional windows will always look great. Let the natural variation of the wood do the work and have something classical timeless and gorgeous.

  1. A serving hatch

Another simple one, but that little serving hatch can be a shop, a cafe, an ice cream van, an office, a reception. For such a small thing, it really brings the best out in kids creativity.
